BirdID is a group of study programmes that was established by Professor Magne Husby at Nord University in 2006. Here you can learn to identify bird species, either online or by joining us in the field. For almost 20 years, we have trained people from all over Europe in recognizing birds in the field. Improved competence about birds is becoming increasingly important in ecological contexts, with the ongoing climate change and pressure on nature.
At first, our studies were only available in Norwegian, but later the website was translated into other languages and we established several collaborations with other countries in Europe. The combined effect of interactive and field-based learning was presented at international conferences, and have resulted in ongoing collaborations with a number of other countries. Unique to our studies is that people from many different nations can take exams with birds in their own country/area. In this way, Nord University contributes to increasing knowledge about birds throughout Europe.
